Tirunesh Dibaba, Ethiopia Born : 1985 in Arsii . A young distance runner with the world at her feet. Able to use an explosive sprint at the end of exhausting distance races. The first woman to achieve the double - 5,000 and 10,000 metres at the 2005 World Championships. This after a double at 4km and 8km at the World Cross Country. She retained her 10,000 metres world crown in 2007. She won a third World Cross Country title as she prepare for the Beijing Olympics where she duly won Gold in the 10,000 metres and made history by being the first female to win the 5,000 and 10,000 metres double. After a long period of injury she retuned to her majestic best in the London Olympics and became the first woman to retain her 10,00 metres title. Her 3rd World 10,00 metres title reinforced her claim to be the greatest women distance runner of all time.
