Haile Gebrselassie, Ethiopia Born : 1973 in Assela, Ethiopia, Haile is legendary even before his career is over. Leading the African domination of distance running he took the 10,000 Metres into a new era with his ability to run at sustained high pace and then produce a sprint finish. Former world record holder in 5000 Metres and 10,000 Metres, he embarked on a successful Marathon career claiming the world record in 2007. In 2008 he won his third consecutive Berlin Marathon lowering the world record to under 2 hours 4 minutes.
