Swimming Career Highlights
Janet Evans, USA Born :1971 in Placentia, California. She has a strong case to be considered the world's greatest female distance swimmer. In 1988 she set world records in 400, 800, and 1500 metres Freestyle These records have survived a generation with the 400 time only beaten in 2006, the 1500 time in 2007 and the 800 in 2008.  Famous for her "windmill" stroke she overcame her small stature by sheer force of will.
